THE INDRA DOG

STORY

Rig Ved says that Sarama ("The Fast") was Indra's dog. Sarama would have chased and recovered the cows stolen by the Panis (A class of demons described in the Rig Veda). Some scholars interpret these passages as if the Hindus were actually the first to domesticate a watchdog to guard a property. This custom in India is estimated to be at least 3,500 years old. Sarama had two children called Sarameyas (children of Sarama), each of the puppies has four eyes. The Sarameyas were the guard dogs of Yama (The god of Death, subordinate to Shiva). Dynamic Marking
